Watercolours

Watercolour is a difficult but rewarding medium. The organic and sometimes surprising effects of the water when it caresses the pigments can be really quite breathtaking, and it's always pretty exciting (well, for me it is!). I like to use lots of techniques, wet in wet, wet on dry, dry on wet, but I always use a copious amount of water and I don't draw beforehand, which can sometimes be a disaster, but I like the freedom. The Paper is really important, I use 100% cotton 300gms most of the time, but, when working in wet in wet it has to be cellulose, it's easier to lift out colours on cellulose (an important detail in wet in wet), cotton seems to just suck the pigment in and hold on for dear life! Since I've been painting, 3 of my favourite cottton papers have been discontinued, so no advice here yet as I'm still searching for the holy grail...As for the watercolour paints, well, I've been fabricating my own for about 7 years now, very cost effective. I wish I could do the same for cotton paper, but not an option while living in a small appartement (or even a big one my guess is). So, on this page you'll find my watercolours from the most recent to the oldest. At the moment I'm looking for texture, more than colour, so there are a lot of monochrome pieces, the further back you go, the less depressing it will be! (joke)
